This piece was a commission with a prompt of “bear skulls & mushrooms”. With no set timeframe & full creative liberty, it took over a year to complete this vision as more & more elements came into being. It is my most detailed painting to date, & very close to my heart. I have long been confused by Western taboos of death, & find the disconnect disturbing. It is my belief that acceptance of death as an inevitable part of the cycle of life, is integral to true appreciation for the wonder of the universe. Death is not the end: just as in nature, it begets new life! I find that very beautiful.
