M. D. ✶ The Mystic

When it comes to awakening, there is a moment
when the life you have been living no longer holds.
An unraveling, or kind of loosening
of the former life you lived that no longer seems to fit.
Often, the body knows first.
An old way of being starts to feel unsustainable,
because something is over,
even if nothing visible has changed—
and even if part of you would prefer to continue as you were.
This threshold has a name in the symbolic language of alchemy, and it is called Nigredo.
The Nigredo Companion is a psychologically grounded, symbolically literate guide to this phase of inner dissolution.
It frames transformation as an initiatory process—
one that unfolds through loss of orientation,
collapse of meaning, and the slow reorganization of the self
from within the body.
This work is a companion for those already undergoing unmaking, written from the perspective of a psyche mid-descent.
